University Of Zurich (UZH) Switzerland encourages online Application for number of Fully Funded PhD Degree at Chemistry Departments. We are giving a Funded PhD Programs available at University of Zurich (UZH) Switzerland. Apply as soon as possible before deadline.
Department : Department of Chemistry At UZH
1. PhD Student Positions in Bioinorganic Chemistry 60 %
The research of the group
of Prof. Dr. Eva Freisinger is focused on the investigation of metallothioneins
from different organisms. MTs are rather small cysteine-rich proteins with the
ability to coordinate a number of transition metal ions. The positions are
standard full-time PhD positions, formally designated 60% based on the
officially assigned salary class.
Your responsibilities
Your research will span the
entire area from identifying new and exciting protein sequences, cloning and
recombinant protein production, purification and initial spectroscopic and
spectrometric characterisation (UV, CD, AAS, ESI-MS, MALDI, etc), followed by
structural studies with NMR and X-ray or functional analyses in collaboration
with groups from the biological field.
Your profile
Applications must have a master’s
degree in Natural Sciences, a Master's Degree in Chemistry is preferred but not
strictly required. However, profound knowledge in coordination chemistry is
essential. Applicants must have excellent oral and written communication skills
in English, and also the soft skills to be a good team player and foster the
collaborative and collegial environment in our Lab and the entire department.
You must enjoy working in a scientific environment, mastering challenges and be
always open to find and investigate the unexpected.
What we offer
We offer varied and
interesting work in an inspiring international environment with access to
state-of-the art scientific infrastructure. Diversity and inclusion are
important to us.
All PhD students of the Department are part of the Graduate School of Chemical and Molecular Sciences
Zurich CMSZH, which thrives to interlink its members and fosters
interactions and exchange. The CMSZH also offers a variety of courses,
excursions, travel awards and financial support for visiting conferences and
courses.
Start of employment
Earliest April 1, 2022 or
by agreement.
Please send your application materials including short motivation letter, CV,
transcripts of records and the names and contact details of three referees in
a single PDF file. Applications that do not follow these
instructions will not be considered.
Deadline for Application: Evaluations will continue until the positions are filled.

2. PhD Student position
in Theoretical Chemistry 60 %
A 4-year PhD Student
position is available in the Luber Group at the Department of Chemistry at
University of Zurich (Switzerland).
Our group focuses on forefront computational methods at the interface of
chemistry, biology, physics, and materials science.
Your responsibilities
The PhD project will deal
with development and application of novel, accurate approaches for spectroscopy
and/ or study of functional compounds. Possible directions for the project are
the development of novel spectroscopic tools by means of forefront dynamic
methods or highly accurate (wavefunction-based) methods for complex systems
such as catalysts in the framework of sustainable energy research. The project
may be carried out in close collaboration with experimental or other computational
groups.
Your profile
The candidate must hold an
excellent master’s degree in chemistry, interdisciplinary natural sciences,
physics, or related, and have profound English and autonomous learning ability
skills. The successful candidate will be highly creative, ambitious, and
motivated. Strong programming skills and very good knowledge about electronic
structure theory, (ab initio) molecular dynamics and/or catalysis are an
advantage.
What we offer
We offer a vibrant,
inspiring environment in a brand-new building with cutting-edge resources and
research, access to world-leading supercomputers, and high-profile
interdisciplinary collaborations. Funding for participation in conferences etc.
is also available.
Start of employment
The employment start date
is by agreement.
Interested applicants are encouraged to send their application documents (cover
letter, CV, diplomas, description of research experience and motivation, names
of at least two academic references) as one pdf document per
e-mail to Prof. Sandra Luber.
The pdf can also include a one-page statement discussing one or two
publications of the group with respect to what the applicant finds particularly
interesting and what could be possible future improvements of the research
described in the publication(s).
